WHAT: Board of Education meeting Nov. 18

The board:
• Heard from Superintendent Perry Nicholas that the district went 14 weeks since the start of the school year without any COVID-19 positive cases until the past few weeks when three students and two staff members were COVID-19 positive. He said through tracing by the Trumbull County Combined Health District, the cases were found to have originated in the community and not in the schools. Nicholas said whenever there is a positive case, text messages are sent to the families and also information provided on the district website;
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Sherry Peters, cafeteria cook, effective Oct. 1 and resignation of teacher Kimberly Bensing, effective Dec. 31;
• Heard from Donaldson the state has approved extending the free breakfast and lunch for children through the end of the 2020-21 school year;
• Heard from Treasurer Merry Smith the district will receive a $127,000 from Ohio Public Works Commission, which will be included in the five-year forecast;
• Recognized the high school boys and girls cross country teams for succesful seasons and accomplishments.
