WHAT: Board of Education meeting Thursday

PRESENT: Tony Perrone, Mary Ann McMahon, KIm Barrell, Chris Chieffo and Michele Lamb

The board:

• Accepted the retirement resignations of Paula Gentile, fourth-grade teacher, effective June 1; Brad Hardman, high school social studies, effective June 1; Erin Noss, third grade, effective May 28; Deborah Tominey, elementary physical education, effective May 28; John Jones, maintenance supervisor, effective Dec. 31; and Sherry Stiffler, administrative assistant, effective Jan. 1. Officials said potential savings to the district with the six retirements is estimated at $235,000;

• Recognized former board member John Davis, who died recently, for his service on the board from 1980-84, 1998-2001, and 2002-2005;

• Heard from parents concerned with pacing of online blended learning for students and if they are inline with in-person learning twice per week. Superintendent Ann Marie Thigpen said the online learning is in line with the in-person learning in the event remote learners return to class or in-class students go remote;

• Hired Amanda Macik as administrative assistant four hours per day at Niles Primary and four hours at Niles Intermediate effective Oct. 12;

• Presented a diploma to Jason Irons, Class of 1999, for successfully completing graduation requirements set by the Department of Education;

• Entered into an agreement with Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board for funding the school district’s preventative plan of action at $24,853;

• Entered into an agreement with Cadence Care Network for the district’s preventative plan of action at $24,853;

• Accepted the resignation of Charmaine Fryer, bus driver, effective Oct. 23. Officials said they will get a replacement;

• Approved Summit Supply Company for snow removal services at schools on an as needed basis;

• Accepted a bid of Liberty Mutual for fleet, property and liability insurance effective Nov. 1 at $542,584.
