WHAT: Village council meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Brian Fisher, Ray Lewis, Richard Harvey, Sean Schmidt, Cliff DeZee, Kyle Joynes and Mayor Glen Puckett


• Announced the village drive-thru trick or treat will be 5 to 7 p.m. today with two lanes on Pennsylvania Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets. Village administrator Thomas Domitrovich said the OH WOW! Science Center and One Hot Cookie contributed 500 each prepackaged snacks and candy, educational games and toys for children. The event was coordinated by the local mayor’s association and also will be held in Girard, Warren and other communities;

• Heard from Domitrovich leaf vacuuming will begin in November with residents asked to rake leaves to the curb;

• Heard from Schmidt the village is in talks with the local board of education to negotiate a new facility use agreement where the schools can use village property such as the parks for events with a recommended cost of $13,500. The current agreement expires Dec. 31;

• Heard from officials they are waiting word from Gov. Mike DeWine and health officials on reopening the community center;

• Heard from Harvey they are waiting for the county health department to provide input on what can be held for the annual Christmas in the Village tree lighting set for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. He said the event may be held in a modified way;

• Heard from Lewis reminding residents to support the renewal of a 1.5-mill, five-year operating levy to generate $28,000 annually. He said the owner of a $100,000 home would pay $22 per year. The levy has been on the books since 1976 for village operating expenses.
