WHAT: Trustee meeting Tuesday and special meeting Oct. 15

PRESENT: Ted Webb, Frank Parke and Bob McBride

Trustees:

• Approved buying two cardiac monitors at $44,569 from Stryker Medical of Chicago paid with Cares Act funds;

• Approved buying a 2021 Ford ambulance at $149,463 from Penn Care Inc. of Niles with $130,463 in Cares Act funds covering most of the cost. The township’s share is $19,000 from fire department budget;

• Approved buying and installing eight cameras at $3,991 for the fire department and four cameras at $2,671 for the road department using Cares Act funds;

• Approved advertising for personal protective equipment with bids to be opened on Oct. 27. Fire Chief Dennis Lewis said Bazetta will serve as the host department in sharing costs with other fire departments for the PPE. He said Bazetta’s cost will be $250;

• Approved purchasing turnout gear for firefighters exposed on a daily basis to the virus at $36,900 using Cares Act funds. Lewis said a set of turnout gear is $2,310;

• Approved buying 25 adapters for self-contained breathing masks and 100 filters at $1,430 from Warren Fire Equipment;

• Approved using CARES Act funds to reimburse the fire department for 55 days at eight hours per day at $14,080 for a person to deal with COVID-19 issues for Bazetta and the county with the expense incurred due to the pandemic;

• Hired Clayton Lejuen as field training police officer at $8.55 per hour for training program on as-needed-basis;

• Accepted the resignation of Scott Gubanya from the police department effective Oct. 1;

• Approved replacing three steel doors at the police department at $5,577 from A&M Door;

• Approved buying security cameras and access control system for the police department at $6,480 from JED Services;

• Approved Tarzan Tree Service at $3,025 for tree work in the rights of way paid from gas fund and $1,700 for tree work in the cemetery paid from cemetery fund;

• Accepted a $62,590 Ohio Public Works Commission Issue 1 funding grant for Fallehn Drive resurfacing with the local 46 percent match at $53,332;

• Awarded a bid of $99,355 to R.T. Vernal Paving and Excavating for Fallehn Drive project;

• Heard from Webb that Cortland had Thompson Mechanical upgrade the air filtration systems at buildings, and Bazetta should look at having it done at the township buildings and what costs will be involved;

• Tabled purchase of gas masks for the police department to see if they would be covered by Cares Act funds for COVID-19-related items. Webb said officials will see if the masks qualify for coverage for both coronavirus and non-coronavirus matters;

• Scheduled a drive-thru drug take back event for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at police department. People dropping off items are to pull up to the curb by the department and hand off drugs to be placed in bins;

• Set trick or treat for 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
