Man charged following police chase

CORTLAND — A Youngstown man will have a preliminary hearing Monday morning following a Tuesday afternoon incident that injured an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper.

The patrol said Geovanny Pastrana was driving erratically on state Route 11 and a trooper attempted to stop the driver. A pursuit ensued, that ended with Pastrana exiting onto state Route 5.

During this time, the patrol report states Pastrana struck the cruiser three times and eventually was stopped. Pastrana was arrested with help from Cortland police after they blocked him in with city cruisers.

A loaded gun was found in the car as well, according to the report.

The trooper was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. Pastrana refused medical treatment and was taken to Trumbull County jail. He is charged with having weapons under disability, failure to comply, carrying a concealed weapon and assault, all felony charges. His bond was set at $200,000.
