Driver claims to be sheriff’s deputy

WARREN — A man stopped by Warren police early Wednesday for making an improper turn after leaving what police said was a “known drug house” claimed to be a Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

The man, who was driving a Mercedes C300, was stopped just before 2:30 a.m. at North Park Avenue near Washington Street, according to a police report. After receiving a citation for the traffic violation, the man claimed he worked for the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office and refused to allow a search of his vehicle for weapons.

He showed the officer a 2019 Fraternal Order of Police card with his name on it and when the officer asked him for a current FOP card or his sheriff’s office identification, the driver responded: “Never mind, I’ll just pay the ticket,” according to the report.

Later, after contacting the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, the officer learned the man no longer works there
