WHAT: Board of Education meeting Thursday

PRESENT: Tony Perrone, Mary Ann McMahon, Kim Barrell, Christopher Chieffo and Michele Lamb

The board:

• Approved requests for FMLA for teachers Germayne Freeze, Ronald Price and Michael Shrodek, who are all retiring this school year;

• Approved a fresh fruit and vegetable program grant for the 2020-21 year with $31,998 awarded to Niles Intermediate School and $33,334 to Niles Primary School. Officials said this provides more fruits and vegetables for students at lunch;

• Approved a lease agreement with Trumbull Community Action Program (TCAP) for space at the administration building for the 2020-21 year with revenue to be generated estimated at $70,200;

• Hired two crossing guards at $25 per day;

• Approved the Niles Virtual Learning Academy support program with supplemental payments of $250 per teacher per semester;

• Announced students Ariana DeLuca and Erika Scharf both self published poetry books available an Amazon;

• Reported state tests for third-graders will be administered in early October.
