WHAT: Township trustees meeting Sept. 9

PRESENT: Matthew Vansuch, James Lapolla and Rick Clark


l Approved contracts for two school resource officers with the Howland school district through June 3, 2021, with one at $35,685, which is half the cost for an officer and the second for $76,580 for full coverage of an officer. The two officers are at the schools five days per week assisting staff and students and when students are not in school they are checked on by the SROs;

l Approved George Snyder as fire / emergency medical service instructor and Shawn Murray as fire instructor at $12.50 per hour as probationary instructors and $18.50 per hour as lead instructors with no benefits at the Howland Fire / EMS Training Center on an as-needed basis;

l Heard from Public Works Director David McCann the township will be seeking Ohio Public Works Commission funding for paving of streets. He said roads will be done in 2021;

l Declared Oct. 2 as “Albert Kosiba Day” in the township as the World War II veteran is turning 100. His family is planning a celebration Oct. 3;

l Declared eight properties as public nuisances and in violation of zoning codes due to garbage, high grass and refuse. Property owners will be sent letters to rectify the problem;

l Heard from Mascarella of plans to continue the drive-thru farmers market into the winter on first and third Saturdays of month;

l Approved Payroc as the township’s credit card processor with no start-up costs or termination fee;

l Approved employee medical, dental and life insurance for all full-time employees with Huntington Insurance through Aug. 31, 2021. Administrator Darlene St. George said there has been no increase in the past three years, with the new increase at 7.5 percent for employees.
