Judge sends man, 63, to state prison

WARREN — A 63-year-old defendant’s plea for leniency fell upon deaf ears Tuesday as a Trumbull County judge sentenced him to one year in prison.

Victor L. Peterman of 2332 Ohio Ave., Youngstown, read from a prepared statement beside his attorney Gilbert Rucker III as he appeared for a sentencing hearing before Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan.

“Please help me beat this disease of addiction,” said the defendant, who noted he had been using drugs and dealing with various mental issues since age 14.

Peterman had pleaded guilty Feb. 11 to an amended indictment of one count obstruction of justice and one count possession of cocaine. The charges stem from a May 3, 2019, arrest by the Warren Police Department.
