Columbus woman gets nine months

WARREN — A Columbus woman received a nine-month prison sentence Monday after being convicted of a cocaine trafficking offense.

Shanntel S. Russell, 33, 5277 Hedgewood Road, Columbus, was deemed “high-risk” for probation, Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Peter J. Kontos said in quoting her background investigation. Russell had pleaded guilty July 27 to the trafficking charge that was a result of a sheriff’s department investigation.

Kontos also pointed to Russell being sentenced to two years in prison in 2015 after pleading guilty to five counts of drug and gun offenses before Trumbull County Judge Andrew D. Logan. Authorities also said Russell committed the latest Trumbull County offense while out on bond from a Portage County court.

The defendant sought probation because she had to care for a child, attorney Jeff Goodman said.
