WHAT: Township trustees meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Doug Seemann, Mark Webb and Ramon French

Trustees:

– Reported the township has received a grant for the $326,000 cold mix resurfacing of Housel Craft Road between state Route 45 and Thompson Clark Road, which will be done in 2021. Seemann said the local share is $101,000. Engineers are planning for the project this fall;

– Heard from French of the need to take down a maple tree in the front section at Sager Cemetery, which is in bad condition and has become a safety concern. Officials said a waterline also was replaced recently at the cemetery;

– Purchased a 2006 Ford bucket truck for $13,580 from Cortland, which will be used for putting up flags and Christmas lights, trimming trees and cleaning gutters at township buildings. Officials said the vehicle has a 36-inch reach;

– Will have the township road crews fix culverts on Mahan Denman Road, with one north of state Route 88 closed for one day and the one south of Route 88 closed for three days. Seemann said the project will help stop erosion issues. Signs will be posted to let motorists know of the closings;

– Will look at installing street lights at the intersections of Mahan Denman Road and Phelps Road, and Mahan Denman Road and Hyde Shafer Road after residents have called trustees concerned of how dark it is in those areas;

– Hired Shane Stellic as a medic / firefighter;

– Approved Ohio Cat at $1,274 to fix the generator at the fire department;

– Reported that ambulance runs to take people to the hospital are down with Seemann noting people, unless in life-threatening condition, do not want to be taken to the hospital because of the coronavirus pandemic. Seemann said officials will see at the end of the year how much money was lost with fewer transports;

– Rescheduled the next meeting to 6 p.m. Sept. 8. Meetings have been broadcast live on Facebook since April.
