Defendant asks for 2nd chance

WARREN — A 32-year-old man, who last week asked the court for help with his drug problem, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to a charge of escape — caused by him not reporting to his parole officer.

A presentence investigation was ordered for JaMichael D. Anderson Sr. of 2221 Estabrook Ave. NW.

At an Aug. 5 hearing, Anderson admitted to Judge W. Wyatt McKay that a longtime drug problem has caused his legal troubles. He asked the judge not to send him back to prison.

Prosecutors agreed to give the defendant one more chance if the county probation department — which compiles the background report for the presentence investigation — would recommend drug counseling. That report would be forthcoming in a few weeks, court officials said.

In the meantime, Anderson remains in Trumbull County jail pending the posting of a $2,500 bond. Jail records show Anderson has been in custody since Feb. 14.
