WHAT: Board of Education meeting Thursday

PRESENT: Diane Alejars, SueEllen Davis, Karen Thomas, Vincent Ragozine and Mark Zuppo

The board:

• Approved the transfer of Dominique Valley from kindergarten teacher at Prospect Elementary to fourth-grade language arts / social studies at the intermediate school;

• Employed Christine Johnstone as a first-grade teacher at Prospect Elementary on a one-year contract; Emma Urban as a sixth-grade math / science teacher at the intermediate school on a one-year contract; Miranda Velchek as eighth-grade math teacher at the junior high on a one-year contract; and Daniel Dota III as a future prep / health and physical education teacher at the high school on a one-year contract;

• Recognized school officials for the success of the senior graduation ceremony held at Sky Way Twin Drive-In in Warren Township;

• Approved the Success by Six virtual program to be held July 6 to 24 to help prepare elementary children for the upcoming school year. Prospect Principal Debra Gratz will be administrator at $25 per hour paid by the United Way. Teachers are Amy Canterino, Therese Meecham and Dominique Valley five days per week at 8.5 hours per week;

• Approved re-employment of John Foster as supervisor of the Girard Blended Academy and also assistant athletic director through June 30, 2022; and re-employed Nicholas Cochran as athletic / activities director through June 30, 2023;

• Re-employed Dawn Brazofsky as an interpreter aide; Stephen Rouan as technology assistant; Christine Humphries as clerical assistant; Elizabeth Drennen, K-6 alternative placement room / in-school suspension instructor; and Kevin Hetrick as 7-12 alternative placement room / in-school suspension instructor;

• Accepted a donation of two non-contact infrared thermometers and two boxes of disposable gloves;

• Established the Michael and Dineen Kempe Robotics Scholarship.
