Eastern Gateway taking hybrid approach to classes

YOUNGSTOWN — Eastern Gateway Community College has announced tentative COVID-19 responsive plans for on-campus instruction this fall semester.

“While plans may change in response to the realities of the pandemic and the state of Ohio’s recommendations for higher education, our doors will be open,” interim President and Chief Financial Officer Michael Geoghegan said. “We are taking a practical and responsible approach to ensure the health and safety of our staff, faculty and students remains our top priority.”

Fall semester will replicate EGCC’s summer plans, which emphasized online classes, while allowing students on campus to make up labs held over from spring semester. For fall, classes without hands-on components will be held online, with the exception of in-person labs that will meet on campus. Clinicals will continue to be scheduled by the participating entity, not by the college.

Classrooms will be structured in a way that ensures students and faculty are able to maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet from one another, and appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided. Plans are subject to change based on status of the pandemic and guidance from the CDC and the state.

EGCC serves Jefferson, Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
