26-year-old man becomes city’s 12th homicide victim

WARREN — Warren police are investigating the city’s 12th homicide this year, which happened during a birthday party Monday night in Quinby Park where 30 to 50 people were present, according to a police report.

Police identified the victim as Robert J. Johnson, 26, of 2325 Burton St. SE. A Trumbull County Coroner’s office spokeswoman said an autopsy was to be conducted Wednesday.

At 9:45 p.m. Monday, police officers were called to Quinby Park for a reported shooting. Seven cruisers responded, and the park was roped off as a crime scene. Police officers could be seen using flashlights checking the grassy area south of the park building.

Neighbors said there had been a party at the park earlier in the evening that included children. Balloons were taped at the park entrance.

According to a police report, Johnson had been taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center by private car before an ambulance arrived. The report did not disclose the time of Johnson’s death.

Trumbull County jail records show the victim had been jailed nine times since June 2015, with the most recent coming July 27, 2019, on a warrant for failure to appear in Warren Municipal Court on a variety of traffic charges.
