Vienna residents report seeing a black bear
VIENNA — Several Vienna Township residents reported to township police this week they saw a black bear in the area of Warren Sharon Road.
Police are advising residents not to feed or approach the bear, but to contact 911.
Officials said when a bear is sighted, the Ohio Division of Wildlife is notified. People should remain calm if they see a bear. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources indicates black bears, which are on the endangered species list and protected by state law, usually are afraid of and avoid humans.
ODNR advises to prevent interactions between bears and people and pets, keep trash cans secure, grills inside a garage or shed, and not leaving out bird seed or pet food.
