Two arrested for carrying weapons
WARREN — Two men were arrested at 2:43 a.m. Sunday on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property.
The arrests followed a traffic stop outside of 2117 Peace Ave.
Cameron C. Scruggs, 21, 20760 Ball Ave., Euclid, was taken to Trumbull County jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property. He pleaded not guilty Monday and was assigned a $3,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. July 7 before municipal Judge Thomas Gysegem.
Trevon Allen, 16, 528 Olive St. NE, Warren, was arrested on a carrying a concealed weapon charge during a police investigation of shots being fired. He was released to his parent.
The suspects were identified by an eyewitness as one wearing a red hoodie and the second wearing a white hoodie.
A police officer was traveling toward Peace Avenue when he saw a car heading in the opposite direction with multiple occupants, including two people matching the discription.
The officer turned his vehicle around to follow the car, which turned into a parking lot outside of 540 Douglas Ave.
The officer waited until backup arrived.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found a .22 caliber handgun pushed slightly under the driver’s side front seat. The weapon was pushed into the front seat from the back of the vehicle.
The front seat chair was blocked by the mechanical part of the seat, so the weapon could not have placed there by someone in the front. The handle of the firearm was facing the rear seat passenger, which was where Allen, in the white hoodie, was sitting.
A tan 9 mm handgun was found between the front passenger seat and the center console, where Scruggs, wearing the red hoodie, was sitting, the police report states.
