Boat catches fire on Mosquito Lake
BAZETTA — No one was hurt when a boat caught fire before 10:15 a.m. Monday near a boat launch at Mosquito Lake.
The boaters were on the lake when they smelled something burning and made their way back to shore near the Imagination Station playground, according to Bazetta fire Capt. Dave Walter. When firefighters arrived, everyone was off the boat, and it was a fully involved fire.
The boat was seriously damaged but did not sink, Walter said.
“With all the water we put in it, and all the water it was on, it still did not sink,” he said.
Walter said he believes the owner was able to put the boat on a trailer and take it home. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating the fire because it occurred on the water, which is ODNR’s jurisdiction.
Walter said all the fuel in the boat likely burned up and did not spill into the lake.
