1-day virus spike in Columbiana is 11% of state total

Ohio had its fourth consecutive day with more than 800 new COVID-19 cases reported Sunday, bringing the total to 50,309.

Columbiana County accounted for 11 percent of the state’s new cases, adding 97 for a total of 1,197 cases. Its hospitalizations and deaths stayed the same, at 145 and 59 respectively.

New cases for the the rest of the Mahoning Valley didn’t jump nearly as high.

Mahoning County had 15 new cases and one death, bringing its numbers to 1,720 cases, 352 hospitalizations and 228 deaths.

Trumbull County reported 11 new cases and two additional hospitalizations and now is reporting 819 cases with 207 in hospitals and 60 confirmed deaths.

The statewide numbers continue a recent spike. Last week’s total cases were the greatest amount in Ohio since April. Only three new deaths were reported statewide Sunday after Saturday’s tally increased by 16.

To date, more than 10 million confirmed cases have been reported globally. About a quarter of them have been reported in the U.S.
