Brookfield BOE upgrades, saves money
BROOKFIELD– The Brookfield Board of Education on Wednesday voted unanimously on an agreement with Plug Smart that allows the district to upgrade its facilities while saving money on utilities.
The upgrades involve installing LED lighting throughout the district, including the high school gym and football stadium. Control upgrades, installing splits and water conservation are also a part of the project.
“This would allow the soccer team to play some games under the lights, something that has never been done before,” said Toby Gibson, Brookfield superintendent.
The upgrades will reduce the total energy used throughout the district to 14.1 percent and reduce annual utility spend by 28.5 percent. Over the next 20 years, the upgrades are projected to save the district over $1 million, according to Gibson.
The district plans to get started on the upgrades as soon as possible.
