Hearing scheduled in shooting of roommate
WARREN — A Weathersfield Township man accused of shooting his roommate during an argument is scheduled to appear for a hearing before Judge Ronald Rice on Thursday.
Ian C. Payne, 29, pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Monday before Judge Peter Kontos in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court
Payne, of 79 Barcelona Drive, was assigned a $1 million bond.
Attorney David T. Rouzzo will handle his case.
According to a news release from Weathersfield Township police Chief Michael J. Naples Jr., police were called at 11:25 p.m., March 18. When officers arrived at the residence, they found a 27-year-old male dead, Naples said.
The victim was later identified by the Trumbull County Coroner’s office as Zachary Wiczen.
According to a Trumbull County 911 report, a caller said the two roommates “started arguing and Zachary pulled a gun. They wrestled around with it, and it went off.”
The caller then told 911 that after the shooting, “the gun was unloaded and is sitting on the couch.”
Payne was advised by police to put his hands up and to walk outside.
A separate Trumbull County 911 report showed police were dispatched to the same address earlier that night to investigate “a roommate making threats.”
