Girard drug court gets $30,000

GIRARD — The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services has awarded the Girard Municipal Court a $30,000 grant from the 2020 Specialized Docket Project Funds.

The grant will be used to assist the Girard Municipal Court Recovery Court Program with its costs. The grant funds will assist the court in costs for staffing, addiction treatment services, mental health treatment services, drug testing, housing, transportation, child care, emergency needs and employment, along with other necessary expenses.

Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeff Adler stated “This grant is necessary to assist helping those who have a drug / alcohol and mental health issues to receive the treatment they need. Unfortunately, the opiate crisis has not gone away. We need all the help we can get to address this problem.”

The Girard Municipal Court first received certification of its Recovery Court Program from the Ohio Supreme Court in 2016. The court was re-certified in 2019 with the addition of an OVI track.

In addition to the $30,000 grant award, the court also receives a $5,000 grant from Trumbull County Mental Health and Addiction Services.
