School board welcomes member

Seeks new treasurer

NEWTON FALLS — While the Newton Falls Board of Education selected a new member to fill an opening on the board, it also began the search for a new treasurer.

Board Vice President Amie Crowder said the board Thursday selected Julie Stimpert to fill an opening on the board when no one ran for the open seat in the general election. The term is through December 2021.

Crowder said Stimpert, who is a teacher in the Howland school district, is familiar with the foster care system in Trumbull County and special education programs and services,

“She will be an asset to the board as we move forward with developing new strategies and programs for the district,” Crowder said.

The board also accepted the resignation of treasurer Julie Sloan, effective Jan. 27, who has accepted a position with Brookfield Local Schools.

The board did approve having Sloan serve on an as-needed basis effective Jan. 28 until the district secures a new treasurer.

Sloan had served 18 months in the district as treasurer.

Crowder said the district working with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center has been seeking applicants for the treasurer position, with deadline set for Wednesday.

She said the board will review applicants and schedule interviews next week.
