Highway Patrol cruiser struck on Route 11 in Liberty

LIBERTY — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper and motorist were both transported early Sunday to the hospital after a vehicle hit a patrol cruiser stopped at another accident on state Route 11.

Reports indicate the trooper was responding to a single-vehicle accident 2 a.m. Sunday in the median on state Route 11 south of the Tibbetts Wick Road exit. While his cruiser was parked in the left lane, with lights flashing, another vehicle hit the back of it.

The accident sent the trooper and driver of the other vehicle to the hospital for minor injuries and heavily damaged both vehicles.

The accident is under investigation. Icy and snowy weather conditions are thought to have been a factor.
