Gas leak results in evacuation at YARS
VIENNA — Non-essential personnel are being asked not to report to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station before 8 a.m. today because of a gas leak on Tuesday.
MSgt. Bob Barko, superintendent of public affairs for the base, said he was notified of the smell of gas around 9 a.m. Tuesday and security at the base were dispatched to two locations at the installation because it was unclear where the source of the smell was. He said around 10:30 a.m., non-essential personnel were advised to evacuate.
A short time later, Barko said Dominion East Ohio Gas arrived and tracked down the source of the leak, but crews were still on the scene Tuesday night. He said Dominion workers advised non-essential air station employees not to report to the base before 8 a.m.
