Turnpike chase ends in Lordstown

LORDSTOWN — An early Sunday morning police chase that started on the Ohio Turnpike ended near the Dairy Queen on state Route 45 in Lordstown.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports police pursued a vehicle with two people inside around 8:30 a.m. on the turnpike through Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Sgt. Troy Homrighausen of the patrol’s post in Hiram said the pursuit started in Windham in Portage County when the driver passed the post at a high speed. He said the vehicle traveled 100 to 150 mph before exiting the turnpike in Lordstown. The vehicle hit a stop sign and guardrail. No one was hurt.

Homrighausen said the male driver was taken into custody but a female passenger was not arrested.
