Police warning: Car thefts on rise

WARREN — The Warren Police Department is warning residents that motor vehicle thefts tend to increase in the winter months because the vehicles are left alone after being started.

“With the drop in temperatures, our agency (like many others) will see a rise in incidents of motor vehicle thefts due to unattended idling cars with the intention of keeping them warm during a momentary absence. Please be cautious of leaving your vehicle(s) unattended in driveways and parking lots with the keys in, as they can be an easy target,” states a public announcement from the department.
