WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Virginia Blaney, Diane Duncan, Tim Gibson and Gary Morton

ABSENT: Russell Sewell

The board:

• Accepted the retirement resignations of Intermediate School Principal Milajean Harkabus, who served since 2002 in the district after having been a principal in Newton Falls. Her contract will end July 31, 2020;

• Accepted the retirement resignation of guidance counselor Margie Adair, who served 39 years in the district;

• Approved Capital Glass and Aluminum to manufacture and install seven doors at Bascom Elementary at $49,900. Blaney said the doors need to be updated due to age;

• Approved Grace Fellowship Church use of the use of the auditorium and classrooms for church services during designated times Saturdays and Sundays through March 2021. The church is in the process of moving into the former McMenamy’s Banquet Center in Niles;

• Gave first reading to a policy on prohibiting small unmanned aircraft, such as drones, on school property at sporting and community events;

• Accepted a $500 donation from band director Ted Steigerwald to the high school music department.
