McDonald gives reading on raises

McDONALD — Village council on Thursday gave the initial reading to granting a 5 percent pay increase for six employees in the street, sewer and water departments.

Mayor Glen Puckett said the increases will be in effect Jan. 1 after the legislation is given three readings by council. The increases will cost the village an additional $14,000 annually.

Councilman Ray Lewis said the employees are hard workers and deserve the raises.

Officials said the increases will help keep and attract more employees.
