Johnston levy passes heartily

JOHNSTON — A 2-mill continuous replacement levy for ambulance and emergency medical services passed in Tuesday’s election 76 to 24 percent, according to unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections.

Results show the levy passed with 244 votes for and 75 votes against.

The Johnston Fire Department now provides EMS to Greene, Gustavus, Kinsman and Vernon townships, with each paying an annual fee to Johnston for the service. Greene pays less than the others because half the township is covered by Johnston and the other half by Bristol.

The replacement was needed because the township is increasing pay for paramedics from $11.30 to $15 per hour and for emergency medical technicians from $9 to $13 per hour in order to attract and retain more candidates, according to Johnston Trustee Dominic Marchese.
