Chieffo loses lawsuit against school board

NILES — Christopher Chieffo, who was fired in 2018 by the Niles Board of Education several months after calling off sick from his teaching position in Niles when it was determined he was coaching the Howland High School golf team, won election to the board on Tuesday.

However, a lawsuit he filed against the board was dismissed last week. Chieffo and the Niles Education Association, filed suit in November 2018 arguing that his grievance over his termination should have gone to binding arbitration, which the board contested.

Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Rice on Thursday granted a motion for summary judgment in the board’s favor.
