Body found in Champion woods

Police investigating to see if remains are of missing man

CHAMPION — The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office is inspecting the skeletal remains of an adult male found this week near Educational Parkway.

Champion police Chief Jeff White said Sunday the skeletal remains were found 11:30 a.m. Saturday near Educational Parkway in a wooded area near the Delphi Plant building, east of Kent State University at Trumbull and a short distance from the Trumbull Career and Technical Center.

Hunters in the wooded area tracking deer discovered the remains.

White said the remains are of an adult male. He said they could be a 43-year-old missing man from the area who disappeared last Thanksgiving.

White said he did not want to release the name until official confirmation is made by the coroner’s office in another day or two. The coroner’s office also will determine the cause of death and whether foul play was involved.

In addition to Champion police and the coroner’s office, the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force also is investigating.

According to previous reports in the Tribune Chronicle, Ronald Reese Jr, 43, was reported missing by local law enforcement in early December 2018 and was last seen on Nov. 24, 2018.
