Bazetta rejects bids for cemetery

BAZETTA — Township trustees have rejected bids received for the Hillside Cemetery improvement project and have decided to table until January rebidding the project when a new trustee joins the board.

Trustee Chairman Paul Hovis said Tuesday trustees had questions over the amounts of the bids and voted to reject them and instead of moving forward with seeking new bids will wait until Bob McBride begins his term as a trustee.

McBride was the top vote getter in the Nov. 5 general election, ousting incumbent Paul Hovis. Michael Hovis, the former police chief and Paul Hovis’ brother, also was on the ballot.

Work that needs to be done at the cemetery since a tornado did damage in January is construction of a storage building, chapel repairs and landscaping.

Some improvements already have been made by the township.

Municipal court records show Cooper pleaded not guilty to all charges and will appear in court again on Tuesday.
