Woman assaulted, threatened with stolen weapon
WARREN — A man accused of assaulting a woman in her home on the 1500 block of Roman Street NW pleaded not guilty to charges of felonious assault and receiving stolen property.
Asher C. Lewis, 22, 133 Logan Ave. is accused of hitting the victim and knocking her to the floor before grabbing a semi-automatic firearm and pointing it toward her head, according to a police report. Lewis was arraigned before Judge Thomas P. Gysegem on Tuesday afternoon.
Lewis, according to the victim, stays with her and her children at the 1500 block residence off and on, but does not live there. Shortly after 10 a.m., Monday, Lewis smacked her across the left side of her face causing her to fall to the floor. He then kicked her on the left side of her body near her ribs.
His finger was bleeding, according to the police report.
Officers found the firearm in the kitchen sink. It had one bullet in its chamber and its magazine was loaded with seven rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.
Although denying the weapon was his, Lewis questioned why he should not be able to carry a firearm. During a search, it was found that Lewis had a small bag of suspected marijuana on him.
After Lewis was arrested, the victim told officers that Lewis took her phone and threw it away from her to stop her from calling the police. When she attempted to retrieve it, Lewis took the gun, pulled the slide back to chamber a round and pointed it toward her head, she told police.
During a check of the weapon, police found it was stolen out of Brimfield Township.
