Teen purchases tires with stolen bank card
HOWLAND — A manager at Sandy’s Tire, 2604 Mahoning Ave., reported that about noon Tuesday a young adult entered the shop and purchased six tires worth $1,018.40 for a recreational vehicle using a credit card that did not belong to him.
When it was time to pay for the tires, the suspect, described as being in his late teens to early 20s, used a phone to call his “grandmother” to obtain credit card information needed for the purchase.
The store received a phone call from the actual owner of the credit card questioning why her card was charged, according to a police report. The card’s owner had not approved the purchase and had not been inside the store.
The caller said she knew the suspect’s mother and provided the information to store and to the police, according to a police report. Police are investigating.
