Spirit Shoppe gets $60,000 grant
BROOKFIELD — Brookfield Local Schools received a $60,000 grant, one of the largest in the district’s history, from the Arconic Foundation to launch the Spirit Shoppe, a student-run business that will immerse students in the fundamentals of a business start-up.
Students will design, manufacture and market products to understand business fundamentals, manufacturing processes and supply chain. The Spirit Shoppe revenue will support the business’ growth.
“Brookfield Local Schools would like to thank the Arconic Foundation for this grant award,” said Toby Gibson, schools superintendent. “It will give our students the opportunity to develop their creativity and apply it to 21st century tools.”
The Arconic Foundation awarded the grant through its Niles operations, a manufacturer of aerospace grade titanium ingot and plate. It will be awarded Oct. 18 at Brookfield High School’s home football game.
