Second-grader brings knife to school

GIRARD — Police were called to Prospect Elementary 9:45 a.m. Friday after a medium-size knife was found in the second-grade boys restroom. The investigation hit a dead end until dismissal, when a teacher overheard two students talking about the knife as they boarded the school bus to go home.

The student in question, 8, admitted bringing the knife to school because he was mad at a friend who had one of his toys. He hid it in the restroom because he knew bringing it to school was wrong. The child’s mother was notified, and the school is consulting with the juvenile prosecutor about his punishment.
