WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: John Pitts, Patricia Fisher, Jim Scher, Kelly Boyle and David Mahan

The board:

• Heard from Champion High School Principal Tracy Herrholtz of the new Freshman Academy, which is helping prepare ninth graders for their first year at the high school. Pitts said recent events have been held to get freshmen familiarized with the school, classes and programs when school starts Tuesday;

• Accepted a $7,500 Martha Holden Jennings Foundation grant awarded to the Champion kindergarten teaching team for their “Coding in Kindergarten” program with children working with computers;

• Entered into contract with Chemtron Corp at $5,715 for proper disposal of waste chemicals out of the high school science department;

• Entered into a two-year agreement with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center for technology services;

• Announced a football bonfire will be 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the high school parking lot;

• Adjusted the hours of Sheryl Cozad to work 6.5 hours as school nurse and 1.5 hours as secretary in the athletic director’s office.
