Niles board approves treasurer’s leave
NILES — The Niles Board of Education on Tuesday approved family and medical leave for Treasurer Lori Hudzik, who has been on an “unrequested leave” since July 1.
The leave runs concurrent with Hudzik’s use of 24 sick days, which also began July 1.
Hudzik, who has worked for the district for 18 months, was absent from work and recent board meetings prior to being placed on unrequested leave. She previously said she had been sick.
The Niles Financial Planning and Supervision Commission at its June 24 meeting expressed dissatisfaction with the district’s record-keeping and said it would author a letter to Hudzik stressing the importance of accuracy. Earlier this month, the board in an emergency meeting appointed Lori Simione as treasurer pro tempore at $300 per day, allowing her to assume all duties as district treasurer while Hudzik is on leave.
The board on Tuesday also held an hourlong executive session to discuss personnel issues, but President Mary Ann McMahon said she could not confirm if it was Hudzik who was discussed.
