Man sentenced to life in prison for child rapes
Grand jury indicts 2 other men on charges in other assaults
WARREN — One rape case was completed Wednesday when a man was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to raping two young girls, and two new rape cases began Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Michael D. Riley Jr., 42, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of rape that carries a life sentence and eight counts of rape, a first-degree felony, according to court records.
Judge W. Wyatt McKay handed down the sentence and classified Riley as a Tier 3 sex offender, the highest level, which means he has to register his home address, workplace and school with the county sheriff’s office every 90 days for the remainder of his life
Trumbull County assistant prosecutor Diane Barber prosecuted the case. Riley will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years, according to court records.
Riley was arrested May 10, 2018, and held on a $350,000 bond, according to Trumbull County Jail records. A grand jury indicted him on the charges in June 2018, according to court records.
A jury trial was scheduled to begin July 29.
The victims were assaulted over a four-year period that began in 2014. They were 12 to 15 years old at the time of the assaults, according to Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins.
He was living in a home on the northeast side of Warren when a woman confronted him May 3, 2018, with allegations her daughters, 15 and 14, had been raped and molested repeatedly, according to a police report.
Also Wednesday, a Trumbull County grand jury indicted two other men on rape charges.
A woman, 25, was raped and kidnapped May 29 in Niles, according to court and police records.
Police arrested Joshua B. Vigorito, 32, 810 Ann Ave., Niles, on charges of rape and kidnapping after responding to a call around 6 a.m. May 29 in the 800 block of Belmont Avenue, according to a police report.
Niles Municipal Court Judge Christopher Shaker set his bond at $1 million on the rape charge and at $500,000 on the kidnapping charge, according to court records.
The Trumbull County grand jury indicted him on rape and kidnapping charges, first degree felonies, according to court records.
In Warren, a woman, 21, was raped May 12, according to police and court records.
Daemin A. Robinson, 22, 1015 N. Lincoln Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of rape around 2:15 p.m. May 16 at the Warren Police Department.
Warren Municipal Court Judge Terry F. Ivanchak set his bond at $50,000 May 17 but lowered it to $7,500 May 30, according to court records.
Robinson is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge July 30 before Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew D. Logan.
Vigorito is scheduled to be arraigned Monday before Judge Peter J. Kontos, according to court records.
