Driver killed in Vienna crash

VIENNA — A Lake Milton man was killed Monday afternoon after the commercial truck he was driving went off the left side of state Route 11 about a half mile south of the Tibbetts Wick Road exit.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Roy C. Duncan Jr., 60, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The patrol said Duncan’s 1996 Western Star commercial truck struck a bridge abutment and overturned onto its roof. The northbound lanes of state Route 11 were closed for about an hour following the 2:17 p.m. crash, leading to a traffic jam several miles long that had motorists at a standstill.

Several dozen motorists chose to use a nearby police turnaround to cross over to the southbound lanes so they could exit the freeway at Tibbetts Wick Road. Other motorists backed up onto the grassy hill on the left side of the northbound lane and drove southbound on the grassy shoulder to get to the turnaround rather than wait for the lanes to reopen.

The crash is still under investigation.
