Teen pleads ‘not true’ to murder

WARREN — A boy, 16, charged with murder and felonious assault in Trumbull County Juvenile Court, entered a plea Monday of “not true,” the equivalent of “not guilty,” during an arraignment.

The next hearing for Dareonte Carmichael, Porter Street NE, has not yet been set. The Trumbull County juvenile prosecutor sometime in the future will make a recommendation to the juvenile court judge on whether Carmichael should be tried as an adult or as a juvenile, said the boy’s attorney, Robert Kokor, assigned by the public defender’s office.

Carmichael, being held at the juvenile justice center, is charged in connection to a June 4 shooting in the 400 block of Maryland Avenue NW in the Warren Heights area that left one man dead and another injured.

Shyhiem W. Whitman-Williams, 1180 Roberts Ave., was shot in the leg and later died. Jackqwuan K. Williams, 25, 725 Webb Ave. SW, was critically injured when he was shot in the hip, according to Warren police.
