Steel plant shut down after fire
NORTH JACKSON — Production at Universal Stainless and Alloy Products on South Bailey Road was shut down Friday evening after a fire around 6 p.m.
Smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the steel company. Workers inside at the time told Tribune news partner WKBN 27 that flames were in the forge room of the plant.
The building was filled with smoke and the workers inside were evacuated. Workers for Friday’s second shift were told to go home.
It is unknown when production will resume. The specialty steel products plant employs about 100 workers, a company official said.
