Shooting victim reported attempted robbery days before death
WARREN — The man whose body was found on Burnett East Road in Warren Township on Friday evening reported an attempted robbery June 7 by three masked men at his Southern Boulevard home.
Kevin M. Daniels, 38, 738 Southern Blvd., whose body was found in the center of Burnett East Road, reported three gun-toting masked men attempted to rob him at his home the previous week.
Warren Township acting police Chief Daniel Peterson Tuesday said the attempted robbery investigation is being conducted by Warren police because it happened in the city. Warren Township officers are working with the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force in Daniels’ murder investigation.
Peterson said Daniels died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Daniels told Warren police he arrived at his home about 2:30 a.m. June 7 when three men came out of the shadows, pointed their guns at him and said, “You already know what this is.”
Daniels ran away and hid in the woods, according to a police report. At the time of the robbery attempt, Daniels said he might have surveillance video images.
In April, Daniels was involved in an incident in which Jakaria M. Barnes, 225 Lawrence Ave., was accused of smashing his car windows and another car while he and several friends were playing dice.
Barnes was charged with criminal damaging and endangering. The charges against Barnes were dismissed Tuesday by Warren Municipal Court Judge Thomas Gysegem.
According to court records, Daniels was sentenced in 2012 to four years in prison on a felonious assault charge. That sentence was merged with one for cocaine possession, court records show.
