Planning commission down to one

WARREN — The Trumbull County Planning Commission Board on Tuesday promoted the interim director to assistant director.

Nicholas Coggins was the commission’s economic development specialist and has been serving as interim director since last year when the director went on leave. He was getting paid about $23 an hour and will now earn about $27.

The board also accepted the resignation of Shane Burkholder, a planner in charge of comprehensive plans making about $23 an hour. Burkholder is moving out of the area. This reduces the number of employees in the planning commission to just Coggins.

Others that have left have not been replaced, but a consulting company is assisting. Coggins said he is negotiating with Burkholder to retain his services as a remote consultant for a flat monthly fee without benefits.

Burkholder just submitted one of two grant applications that need to be approved for the county to start a broadband internet feasibility study.
