WHAT: Board of Education special meeting Friday

PRESENT: John Saganich, Jody Klase, Wendy Higgins, Joseph Cappuzzello and Thomas Hannon

The board:

• Heard from Superintendent Kevin O’Connell that trees continue to be removed from the property off Second Street for the planned athletic field complex as part of the first phase. He said work should be done by late summer to move to the next phase. O’Connell said the village has seen many cicadas in recent weeks, which he noted have been attracted to the school site because of the trees. He said only minor improvements will be made to the stadium site with all construction work for playing fields and an eight-lane track at the new location;

• Approved joining the Interlocal Purchasing System cooperative purchasing program at no cost to the school district. The national program helps districts with vendor contracts for products and services. O’Connell said the program will help the district get LED lighting for buildings and HVAC building automation system upgrades with Plug Smart at a cost of $179,127 to $199,111.
