DiVieste’s grievance hearing conducted

WARREN — The operations department employee accused of taking his city vehicle to conduct personal business at a local restaurant on May 3 received a grievance hearing before his nephew, Warren Safety Service Director Enzo Cantalamessa, Wednesday morning.

Celestino DiVieste was suspended for 40 days by Cantalamessa after he was found guilty of gross misuse of city equipment, dereliction of duty and being absent without leave. The suspension is supposed to end July 15.

DiVieste submitted a grievance to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 74 and the city, stating the disciplinary action was too significant . DiVieste was represented by his union during the approximately 20-minute hearing, and Cantalamessa has 10 days to make a decision.
