Bond lowered for Niles man accused of rape of 12-year-old girl

WARREN — A judge reduced the bond of a Niles man accused of raping a girl, 12, from $1 million to $100,000 after he was arraigned Friday before Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Peter J. Kontos.

Daniel W. Thorne Jr., 18, Walnut Street, Niles, is facing a charge of first-degree felony rape, which could result in a life sentence. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and remains in the Trumbull County Jail after his March 28 arrest.

Niles Municipal Court Judge Christopher Shaker originally set his bond at $1 million. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for June 4 and he applied to use a public defender, court records show.
