Mother arrested after kids found alone
WARREN — The mother of two small children found hungry, wet, cold and with minimum clothing outside of 3221 Dunstan Drive at 1 p.m. Sunday pleaded not guilty to two counts of child endangering on Monday.
Bethany L. Dibell, 23, 1208 Grant St. SE., is scheduled to appear in Warren Municipal Court May 14 on the endangering children charges, court records show.
A friend of the chidrens’ neighbor found them and placed them in his truck in an effort to warm them up. The older child, according to the police report, said they were locked out of their home. A neighbor took the children from the truck and fed them, the police report states.
After about 20 minutes of knocking, Dibell answered the door, the police report states. When officers requested identification, Dibell attempted to close the door and was repeatedly told not to do so, according to the report.
A third child was found in the house. Officers said the apartment was in poor condition with food on the table and on the floor.
Dibell told officers she could not breathe and she had to take her medicine. However, when an EMT arrived, Dibell refused medical treatment, the report states.
The children were turned over to Dibell’s mother-in-law. Trumbull County Children Services was contacted.
Warren Municipal Court Judge Terry Ivanchak ordered Dibell not to have any contact with the children without CSB permission. She is due back in court May 14, court records show.
