Warren mom left child in cold car
WARREN — A Warren mother who left her 5-year-old child in the family van overnight in January was sentenced this week to 10 days in jail on a child endangering charge.
Appearing Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court, Elisa Elliott, 29, 2152 Peace Ave., pleaded guilty to the charge before Judge Terry F. Ivanchak, who also placed her on two years probation.
According to police reports, Elliott’s 5-year-old daughter was heard knocking on a door within the apartment complex around 8 a.m. after spending the night in the van, where she reportedly was left sleeping by her mother.
Police reports state the child was wearing a shirt, pants and a light jacket when she was discovered by a neighbor who called police. Elliott told police the family arrived at the complex around 3 a.m. after driving from Columbus and she thought the child had walked into the apartment with the others. A friend of Elliott also said she believed the child was in the apartment.
Police estimated the overnight temperatures on Jan. 28 were as low as 9 degrees.
